│ Welcome to Einstein E-Mail │
└────────────────────────────┘
Einstein E-Mail is a powerful program designed to help you communicate
more effectively on your network. Included are such items as industry
standard MHS compatible electronic mail, telephone messaging, network
utilities and more, all rolled up into one easy to use program. You
can even run Einstein in TSR mode, so you can pop up directly on top
of other programs, such as WordPerfect or Lotus 123.
While Einstein is an industry-standard MHS application, you do not need
to own MHS in order to benefit from the program. If you need only to send
mail within your physical location on the same server, Einstein can
deliver mail all by itself, eliminating the need for gateways or dedicated
mail servers. In other words, everything you need to get started using
Einstein is in one box.
If you add MHS capabilities to your network in the future, Einstein
instantly becomes a global electronic mail and messaging system,
compatible with Novell's SMF-70 and SMF-71 standards. This allows you to
send mail to other e-mail systems or networks, or connect all your
office locations to create an enterprise-wide electronic mail and
scheduling software package.

│ Installation │ Page 1
└──────────────┘
You must be a SUPERVISOR or equivalent install Einstein.
1. Create a directory anywhere on a shared network volume, then make it
the current directory. Use a volume that has the most space and/or
has the least amount of traffic. Plan on using about 1 Megabyte per
user for a mature installation. Example: MD F:\EINSTEIN
If upgrading from an Einstein version prior to 5.0, please see
the section titled "Upgrading from Older Versions" in this
document.
2. Grant sufficient TRUSTEE RIGHTS to the directory created in step 1 to
the users you want to be able to run the program. Users need all
rights, except Supervisor and Access Control/Parental (See SYSCON).
We recommend you create a Group, grant rights to the group, then
add individual users to the group if they are able to run the
program.
3. Copy the contents of the Einstein diskette into the new directory
created in step 1. For example: COPY A:\*.* F:\EINSTEIN
4. Run the ADMIN.EXE program from the directory created in step 1. You will
be prompted to create a new installation. Follow the steps to completion.
You will create a master User List and mailbox for each user when complete.
5. Run the MAIL.EXE program with the following optional parameters:
/R Run Einstein as a TSR, or Resident program. The
default Hot Key is <Alt>+<Ins>.
/MHS:(path) Specifies the location of the MHS server directory. The
\MHS is assumed in the string, so you do not need to
specify it. For instance, if MHS is installed on H:\MHS,
you can use: /MHS:h:
/H:(server) Specify an MHS HUB name instead of default server name
obtained from the workstation environment. This is
required only if your "home" MHS Hub name is different
than your default physical server name.
/PATH:(path) Location of Einstein server directory. This should
point to the directory created in step 1. You must
specify this option if you run the MAIL.EXE program from
a local hard disk or any location other than the main file
server directory (where you installed Einstein).
/SWAPPATH:(path) Write temporary files to specified path. If there is
not sufficient memory for the TSR program to load into,
write them to this directory instead of the current
directory.
6. Einstein installation Complete! See the remainder of this document
to see how you can integrate Einstein with your network.

│ Upgrading From Older Versions │
└───────────────────────────────┘
If you are upgrading from Einstein version prior to 5.0, you must obtain the
upgrade kit from Devont Software's BBS. Download UPGRADE.ZIP for a utility
which allows you to migrate all your existing data into the new Einstein data
format.
┌───────────────────────────────┐
│ The Einstein Batch File │
└───────────────────────────────┘
The sample batch file below is an example of loading Einstein as a TSR
program. Note this example assumes the program is installed into
SYS:APPS\EINSTEIN. Replace with your own specific volume information.
┌─────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ Example EINSTEIN.BAT │
├─────────────────────────────────────────┤
│ @echo off │
│ map m:=sys:apps\einstein │
│ m: │
│ mail /r │
└─────────────────────────────────────────┘
Note that you should never load a TSR program from Novell's login script.
Instead, have the login script exit to a batch file with the command:
EXIT "Z:EINSTEIN.BAT"
┌─────────────────────┐ Page 3
│ Resident (TSR) Mode │
└─────────────────────┘
Einstein can optionally be made to operate in TSR mode simply by
supplying a startup parameter on the command line. If the "/R" parameter
exists on the command line, Einstein will load as a TSR program. Then,
you'll be able to press Einstein's hot key while working in other
programs, and have it pop up right on top of your work in progress. When
you are finished with Einstein, another press of the hot key will
return you to the exact place you left off.
The Einstein TSR takes up about 19K low DOS RAM. This kernal cannot
be loaded into high memory using the LH command. You should load
Einstein after any other TSR programs when possible.
If you load Einstein as a TSR program, you should have at least 2
megabytes of total system memory. Your CONFIG.SYS file should contain a
memory manager such as HIMEM.SYS and EMM386.EXE. If you do not know how
to configure 386 workstation memory, please consult your DOS manual. While
we use the the following CONFIG.SYS on PC-compatible workstations running
DOS 5.0 and higher, your needs may differ slightly.
┌───────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ Example CONFIG.SYS │
├───────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
│ shell=c:\dos\command.com /e:512 /p │
│ device=c:\dos\himem.sys │
│ devicehigh=c:\dos\emm386.exe noems frame=e000 │
│ devicehigh=c:\dos\ansi.sys │
│ dos=high,umb │
│ files=40 │
│ buffers=40 │

│ SYSTEM.MNU File │
└─────────────────┘
If a file called SYSTEM.MNU exists in the EINSTEIN\SYSTEM directory,
A special menu item called "Applications" appears under the Desktop
main menu item.
As a Systems Administrator, you can create a custom menu which users
can use to launch other programs, such as WordPerfect, Lotus, etc.
If using Einstein as a TSR program, this means you could create a
menu which gives near TSR access to non-TSR programs.
Use the included SYSTEM.MNU file as a sample. The required fields to
place in this file are as follows:
Program Name, User or Group Membership, Program Path,Default Drive/Path
~Corel Draw, COREL, c:\corel\corel.exe, c:\
Program Name: What displays on the menu. Precede a letter with a "~
to indicate a hot key. In the example above, the "C" in
Corel Draw is highlighted.
User/Group: Specify a User ID or Group Name that can run this program.
If a user is not a member of the specified group, he
will be denied access to the program. Specify a single
UserID, and only that UserID will be able to select
the menu item.
Program Path: Type the complete pathname to the program to run. This
must specify a file with a .COM, .EXE or .BAT extension.
Default Drive: Optional. Where would you like the user placed when
the program is executed? If not specified, the user's
default drive is not changed.

│ Registration │
└──────────────┘
By default, Einstein operates in Demonstration mode. This mode allows
you to create e-mail and telephone messages no longer than 5 lines in
length, and notifies you of this fact on program startup. Attempts to add
text to a message that exceeds the 5 line limit will fail, and a notice
displays informing you of this fact.
When you have decided Einstein is the package for you, call us for a
a live activation key. With this activation key, the 5 line message
limitation is removed and the program no longer displays the demonstration
mode notification. You will then receive a standard package from us,
including the latest version of the program, manuals, warranty and license
agreements, 1 year free upgrades from our BBS and 1 year free technical
support.
Please keep in mind: This software is how we make our living. The
sale of this software is the sole income for two adults and two very
small children. If you use our software without paying the nominal
registration fee, it is like stealing directly from our pocket (and
dinnertable).
┌──────────────────────┐
│ Free Bonus Software! │
└──────────────────────┘
When registering, you receive a bonus diskette containing a telephone
log viewer program, a desktop productivity system which is integrated into
the Einstein data structures, a "check-mail" utility and other handy
utilities that help you easily manage your new mail system.
